  • Oh This New Year

Ah, the New Year is upon us and what has transpired so far?

If there are any resolutions they are surely gone by the wayside –

change means change and we cannot simply wish that.  Goals are

a more attainable way of moving on; I’ve bought a loaf of great

bread after I’ve resolved to reduce my bread intake – go figure!  No Starbucks

so far and I haven’t even thought about reducing my wine intake.

But change is change and time is what change is steeped in.

Now where did I place those goals?

A wonderful Christmas, visiting friends and relatives –

a trip to Rochester, NY – yes I did get sick and as of now I

have transferred it to Carol; what are husbands for?  A down

key NYE – I was still sick and  Boston was 10° and after the snow

storm we just had we just hung in.

And now my honey is sick on the couch and we are hunkering

in for a long winters night …

  • First Day of Winter

The first day of winter and in the North East and we got buried!  We were going to go and listen to the Back Bay Chorale Society in Boston University’s Marsh Chapel.  Unfortunately old man winter has decided a little dumping was in order and 12″ of fluffy white stuff now sits in my driveway.

Well we made it out to a brunch with Carol’s parents and saw their injured Dachshund at the veterinary hospital.  But I just couldn’t keep us out on the roads until 7PM after the concert would have ended: the wipers froze up on the windshield twice on the way home.   After Carol’s parents left we hunkered down with the fire drinking Mimosas reading the paper and listened to the plows in the street.  The thump of the plow and growl of the diesel giving us comfort that the roads will be clear in the morning.

Sometimes just being home, safe and warm with your loved one is the best thing in the world.  I hope you all are having a great Sunday.

  • All Good Deeds – Punished Brutally – The Night Before Christmas

So the Northeast is receiving 12-18″ of snow.  As part of my good guy soul I said to myself “Self, get thy butt into work early and thy will be rewarded with the divine leaving early.”  And I do.  And by 9AM I’m in a meeting that requires my manager to say “everybody take a deep breath.”  This is actually kind of funny because I was just out of breath from screaming at the resident obstinate who, for reasons known only to him and the rock that served as his hatchery, could not get past the past and move forward to get us to where we all need to be.  I know this is all very vague and nebulous but the moral of the story is when you waste four days of my time because you can’t drop X to get to Y I get a little …. cranky.  The interesting part of the story is … boy Mr. Obstinate seemed to have an attitude adjustment after my, albeit over the top, explosion.  So look, I don’t manage the guy, and unfortunately neither does his manager, so stay out of my way and definitely don’t waste my time because you need to be “large and in charge.”

And yet, it gets better.  So our hero, who is really me of course because we are all the protagonist in our personal story, is diligently cranking away with sugar plumb faeries named “leaving” and “early” dancing in my head – almost getting ready to put on my boots in fact – when, what to my wondering eyes should appear but an email so lively and quick that it must be from my boss; that prick!  More rapid than eagles his courses they came; and they whistled, and shouted and called me a nasty name: Now, Dirtball! now, Dingbat! now, Pinhead and Vermin!  Why are my transactions failing?  Why did they fail oh why did they all!

I’ll stop slaughtering the Night Before Christmas now that I’ve vented and ranted and raved.  I left work in the teeth of the storm.  And now I’m home, with my love one; happy, safe and warm!

Have a great and safe night

  • River Fire

Oh to see the fire in the River,

its’ glittering flames, sunlit ripples guttering,

    our chapped lips licking.

The breezes are blowing the mallards,

an emerald head dips, in their wake,

    bottoms up!

The old New England farm is burning,

    the late fall sunlight waiting,

    waiting for

next seasons wind, its white and cheerful bite.

  • The Mighty Papi has struck out!

    Oh! somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;

The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light.

    And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;

But there is no joy on the Muddy River – mighty Papi has Struck Out.

  • Cheers!

I’m not quite sure the glow has worn off; it has been a little bit over a month and I still have this smile on my face.

  • Time is Fleeting

    (63 hours : 30 minutes : 55 seconds)

    Time Warp
    Riff Raff

    It’s astounding
    Time is fleeting
    Madness takes its toll
    But listen closely

    Magenta

    Not for very much longer

    Riff Raff

    I’ve got to keep control
I remember doing the Time Warp
    Drinking those moments when
    The blackness would hit me

    Riff and Magenta

And the void would be calling

    Chorus

Let’s do the Time Warp again
Let’s do the Time Warp again

A counter on my web page ticks down the hours until I will be married.

A friend of mine told me that before your wedding time expands, each perceived day is really three. This explains my lack of memory for most of the month of August.

The trouble with this is now that it is here, after 18 months of an engagement, I want to enjoy it so much!!! I want to grab the reins of the charging steeds of time and yank back with both fists. I want to sip each chaotic, wonderful, ridiculous and sublime drop rolling each joyous tear in my mouth and holding off “I do” until “we can’t wait” anymore. I want to play the next 72 hours like a symphony full of tempo changes and feel the pianissimo crescendo to the double forte!

    Bring it on – Slowly.
